Philippe won the Academy Award for his work on "A River Runs Through It" and has filmed such classics as "Hope and Glory", "Interview with a Vampire", and "Big Fish".

He received an Academy Award  for writing "The Sting" and "Sleepless in Seattle.John is known as "Mr. Big Bear" having starred in numerous local productions since "retiring" from show business and moving to Big Bear.
